i watched this video because i was curious to see what people were saying back then and it's just the same old same old what you hear men say now. (not even joking) anyway this video also made me think of a quote by bell hooks and i'm paraphrasing in my own words but basically, she said that to suggest the idea that black men were dehumanized for not being patriarchs is to suggest that the subjugation of black women was essential to the positive self-development of black men and that this idea only exists to serve a sexist social order.

she's correct and in a lot of the ways to these men, it's definitely essential. because all of their arguments is that black women gaining the ability to be independent from men is a coordinated attack on black men.(lol) they can't feel good about themselves as men if black women are financially independent and able to chart the course of our own life without a man.

and that's quite sad don't you think? the fact that your identity and self-esteem as a person depends on another human being's subjugation.
